A former leading prosecutor in Baltimore was found guilty on Tuesday of one charge of mortgage fraud, marking the end of a lengthy legal battle. Marilyn Mosby, during the trial, testified that she unknowingly provided false information on loan applications to purchase two vacation homes in Florida.

The jury, after deliberating for most of the day, delivered a split verdict on Tuesday evening. While Mosby was acquitted of a second mortgage fraud charge, she was convicted on one count, as reported by The Baltimore Sun.

She had previously been found guilty on two counts of perjury in a separate criminal trial held in November. However, she has yet to receive a sentence in either case.

Mosby’s tenure as Baltimore’s state’s attorney spanned two terms, during which she gained renown for her progressive agenda and numerous consequential rulings. Notably, she pursued legal action against the police officers implicated in the tragic 2015 demise of Freddie Gray, an incident that galvanized nationwide protests against law enforcement misconduct. Despite her efforts, no convictions were secured.

However, her political career took a downturn when she faced indictment by a federal grand jury, leading to her defeat in the 2022 re-election bid.

Due to concerns regarding potential bias among jurors due to widespread media coverage, Mosby’s mortgage fraud trial, which commenced in mid-January, was relocated from Baltimore to Greenbelt, Maryland.
