Arun Yogiraj: Sculptor Contending for Selection as Creator of Idol for Ayodhya Temple
The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teertha Kshetra trust, responsible for overseeing the temple’s construction, is expected to make an official announcement regarding the idol selection on January 5.
While an official announcement is pending, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has indicated that the idol of Ram Lalla, crafted by sculptor Arun Yogiraj from Karnataka, is likely to be installed at the grand temple in Ayodhya. Arun Yogiraj is among the three sculptors whose 51-inch idols are under consideration for placement in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Temple.
From MBA Graduate to Sculptor: Who exactly is Arun Yogiraj?
- Arun Yogiraj, a highly sought-after sculptor in the nation, hails from a family with a profound heritage in the art. Both his father and grandfather were acclaimed sculptors, adding to the rich legacy of their craft.
- Upon earning his MBA, Mr. Yogiraj briefly worked in a private company. However, his true passion lay in perpetuating a tradition that had been carried on by four generations before him.
- Mr. Yogiraj’s efforts have garnered acknowledgment from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
- Mr. Yogiraj is the skilled artisan behind the creation of the eye-catching 30-foot statue of Subhash Chandra Bose, situated in the impressive canopy behind the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate.
- In addition to his various projects, Mr. Yogiraj has sculpted a 12-foot-tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath and a 21-foot-tall Hanuman statue at Chunchanakatte in Mysore district, both of which have garnered considerable media attention. Furthermore, he has crafted a prominent 15-foot-tall statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The royal family of Mysore has also expressed special recognition and appreciation for his significant contributions.

Discussing her husband’s commitment to his artistry, she mentioned that Arun Yogiraj dedicates 10 hours each day to his work. For projects of national significance, he goes above and beyond, working tirelessly round the clock. She emphasized that when he is sculpting, there is no margin for error, as he consistently produces masterpieces.
In a conversation with his wife, Arun Yogiraj discussed the challenging task ahead. He expressed that despite the difficulty, he was determined to continue sculpting until he discovered the presence of Lord Ram in the idol. Vijetha concluded by mentioning his belief that Lord Ram would guide him in the process.
Meanwhile, Saraswathi, Arun Yogiraj’s mother, is overjoyed at the prospect of her son’s work being showcased to the entire world.

Ram Lalla Idol
On January 1, Minister Pralhad Joshi posted on X (formerly Twitter) announcing the completion of the idol selection for the Prana Pratishtapana of Lord Rama in Ayodhya. In the Kannada language, he shared, “Our esteemed sculptor, Mr. Arun Yogiraj, has been chosen. The idol crafted by him will grace Ayodhya with the divine presence of Lord Rama.”
“This serves as yet another illustration of the inseparable bond between Rama and Hanuman. It is evident that this holds significant importance as a devoted offering to Ramlallani from Karnataka, the sacred land of Hanuman.”

Three idols were under consideration for the selection process. When questioned about the parameters, Bimlendra Mohan Pratap Mishra, a member of the trust, informed the news agency ANI that the criteria involved the idol “speaking to you and captivating your senses.”
Meanwhile, Champat Rai conveyed to ANI, “The chosen idol for Pran Pratishtha will be the one exhibiting the most divine appearance and carrying a distinct impression of Ram Lalla.”
Arun Yogiraj, hailing from a lineage of five generations of acclaimed sculptors in Mysore, currently holds the position as the most in-demand sculptor in the nation.
Ram Lalla
The magnificent idol of ‘Ram Lalla,’ skillfully crafted by the renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj from Karnataka, will grace the majestic Ram temple in Ayodhya.
The annual salary for the Prime Minister of India is 19,20,000 INR. This translates to a monthly salary of 1,60,000 INR. The salary includes a base pay of Rs. 50,000, along with additional allowances such as sumptuary, MP, and daily allowances of Rs.

Ayodhya, also recognized as Saket, stands as an ancient Indian city, renowned as the birthplace of Bhagwan Shri Ram and the prominent backdrop of the epic Ramayana. Historically, Ayodhya served as the capital of the ancient Kosala Kingdom.
The Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony is slated to commence on January 16, 2024, with the consecration of Lord Ram Lalla scheduled for January 22, 2024.
