Prior to his apprehension, Majors was experiencing a burgeoning Hollywood career. The Emmy-nominated actor had notable roles in two major 2023 releases, “Ant-Man 3” and “Creed III,” along with the indie film “Magazine Dreams.”

New Delhi: Actor Jonathan Majors has been convicted by a Manhattan jury for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. On Monday, he was found guilty on two misdemeanor charges of harassment and assault, while being acquitted on two other counts.

A six-member jury deliberated for slightly over four hours spanning three days before arriving at their decision. They unanimously declared Majors not guilty on one charge of third-degree intentional assault and one charge of second-degree aggravated harassment. Despite being present in the courtroom alongside his legal team and current girlfriend Meagan Good, Majors exhibited no visible reaction to the verdict, as reported by Variety.

Judge Michael Gaffey has scheduled Majors’ sentencing for February 6. Instead of facing up to a year in prison, Majors may potentially receive probation. The incident leading to Majors’ arrest occurred in March in New York City when he assaulted Jabbari in the backseat of a private vehicle. The altercation was triggered when Jabbari, a 30-year-old dancer who had met Majors on the set of Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” read a text message from another woman on Majors’ phone. Allegedly, Jabbari seized Majors’ phone, prompting him to attempt to retrieve it. During the struggle, Jabbari claimed to have experienced a forceful impact to her skull, resulting in bruises, swelling, and intense pain.

Following the conviction, Marvel Studios severed connections with Majors, the actor portraying Kang the Conqueror in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. Variety has reported that Majors, aged 34, will feature in upcoming Marvel films, including ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ set to hit theaters in 2025.

Priya Chaudhry, the defense attorney for Majors, asserts that her client “believes in the legal proceedings and anticipates the opportunity to completely vindicate himself.”

“The jury’s verdict indicates a lack of credence in Grace Jabbari’s account of the SUV incident, as they determined that Mr. Majors did not deliberately inflict any harm upon her. While we appreciate this acknowledgment, it is disheartening that despite their skepticism toward Ms. Jabbari’s narrative, the jury still concluded that Mr. Majors exhibited recklessness during her assault,” stated Chaudhry.

The individual behind the wheel on the evening of the reported incident provided testimony last week, with the assistance of an Urdu interpreter. They asserted that Majors did not engage in any harmful actions towards Jabbari while inside the vehicle. Nonetheless, as Majors sought to leave the vehicle, the driver claimed that Majors made an effort to prevent Jabbari from exiting by attempting to pull her back into the car, stating, “I distinctly recall [Majors] pushing her back into the car to remove her.”

Prior to his apprehension, Majors was experiencing a flourishing career in Hollywood. The actor, who received an Emmy nomination, played prominent roles in two major films of 2023, “Ant-Man 3” and “Creed III,” along with the indie production “Magazine Dreams,” acquired by Searchlight Pictures at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. However, in the wake of the allegations, the company decided to remove the project from its scheduled release.

Majors’ management, Entertainment 360, and his public relations firm, the Lede Company, severed ties with him in the aftermath. However, he remains under representation by the talent agency WME.
