Barcelona loanee could get more playing time after impressive display vs Real Madrid

Pablo Torre departed Barcelona on loan to Girona late in the summer transfer window after it became clear that he would not see minutes under Xavi.

The youngster was after all facing seemingly unsurmountable competition in the form of Pedri, Pablo Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Ilkay Gundogan.

However, his start to life at Girona has been far from ideal. The player has had limited playing time for Michel’s side and was involved in just 76 minutes of action in the first seven games.

A possible lifeline

According to reports from SPORT, the Catalans’ recent defeat to Real Madrid at Estadi Montilivi could prove to be the turning point in Torre’s season.

The youngster started on the bench against Los Blancos and came on for the final ten minutes of action.

At the time of his introduction, his team were already down by three goals and apparently lost. Yet, his cameo came as a silver lining to Girona’s first defeat of the season.

In just ten minutes against the European giants, Torre completed nine passes and one long ball. Further, he made a critical block to deny Real Madrid a great chance on goal.

Michel is happy with the 20-year-old

The Girona coaching staff are said to be pleasantly surprised by the youngster’s quality and see him as a key member in the coming weeks.

After all, Michel’s trusted midfielder, Viktor Tsygankov, is injured and will miss the upcoming games. Torre is well-placed to replace him in the starting lineup coming off a promising cameo.

The Girona manager praised the Barcelona loanee for his positive impact and acknowledged his role in the squad during his recent press conference.

“He is a differential player in the final third of the pitch. We want him there. I think he’s done very good minutes,” he said. Now, it remains to be seen if the youngster’s fortunes indeed turn.
