IPL Auction 2024 Live Updates: Speculations swirled around the possibility of reaching the ₹20 crore milestone today, and Pat Cummins has not only met but surpassed it. The Australian skipper, enjoying a stellar year, concluded it with a staggering auction price of ₹20.50 crore, as Sunrisers Hyderabad spared no expense to secure the services of the formidable fast bowler. Adding to their acquisitions, SRH also secured the talents of Travis Head, Australia’s World Cup final hero, for a commendable ₹6.80 crore.

While today’s event in Dubai may not match the grand spectacle of the two-day behemoth that is the IPL mega auction, it is certainly noteworthy. The star-studded lineup, including Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, and others, assures an enthralling 8-plus hours of entertainment. And guess who’s back? Rishabh Pant will grace the Delhi Capitals table, employing his tactics and strategies to secure some of the finest talents on offer.

Let’s dive into some trivia about the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions. The total purse for the 10 franchises stands at an impressive ₹262.95 crore. Leading the pack is Gujarat Titans, boasting the most substantial budget at ₹38.15 crore, closely followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad with the second-largest purse of ₹34 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are also in a strong financial position, armed with over ₹30 crore each for player acquisitions.

Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings are not far behind, with respective budgets of ₹28.95 crore, ₹23.25 crore, and ₹29.1 crore to strategically enhance their player rosters. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, and Rajasthan Royals have comparatively smaller war chests, with budgets of ₹17.75 crore, ₹13.15 crore, and ₹14.5 crore, respectively, as they prepare to compete with their more financially endowed counterparts in the upcoming auctions.

A total of 77 slots are open for franchises to fill in the upcoming auction, comprising 213 Indian players and 116 foreign players. The selection process is straightforward: players are grouped into different skill sets and will be auctioned off as their names are drawn from the pool.

Mallika Sagar, who recently conducted the WPL auction, is set to make history by becoming the first female auctioneer in the 16-year-long history of the IPL, taking over from Hugh Edmeades.

The auction features various price brackets, with the highest category set at ₹2 crore. Notably, 23 players, including Shardul Thakur, Harshal Patel, and Umesh Yadav, have registered for this top bracket. Other price categories include ₹1 crore, ₹75 lakh, ₹50 lakh, ₹20 lakh, and so forth.

While some players’ presence has boosted stocks for the IPL 2024 auction, there are noteworthy absentees, with the prominent ones being the England duo Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, along with Shakib Al Hasan and Joe Root. Nevertheless, the grandiosity of this upcoming event doesn’t diminish the excitement surrounding it. The auction serves as a fitting prelude, setting the stage for what promises to be an even more spectacular 2024 edition of the IPL.

One significant development causing a buzz is the appointment of Hardik Pandya as the captain of the Mumbai Indians for the first time in an IPL season, coinciding with MS Dhoni’s farewell. The return of young Indian captains Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant to the forefront, coupled with Gautam Gambhir’s homecoming as the mentor for KKR, has already captured attention, and the new year hasn’t even begun. While an official date is yet to be announced, it is anticipated that IPL 2024 will commence on March 22.

Hello there! Take a seat, unwind, and brace yourself for an exhilarating journey. Who’s going to make a massive splash in the auction? Will someone surpass Sam Curran’s staggering ₹18.5 crore deal with PBKS from last year? If so, who’s the likely candidate?
